Surprised by a diagnosis of hypertension? Many are because they expect symptoms of some sort to alert them that something needs attention. Having high blood pressure is not something that happens over a period of days or even months. Years of not eating healthy and leading a sedentary lifestyle are two risk factors for being hypertensive and raising the possibility of having a stroke, heart attack, or kidney damage.
Regular exams are important so if you do have consistently high blood pressure, your doctor can prescribe Aceon or generic Perindopril. This is called an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor which will help reduce your blood pressure, along with a healthy diet, exercise, and no more tobacco. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.
The angiotensin-converting enzyme is responsible for converting angiotensin I into angiotensin II. This causes the surrounding muscles of your blood vessels to constrict which causes an increased pressure in the blood flowing through your blood vessels. When you take Aceon as directed, the conversion of angiotensin I to II is prevented and your blood vessels dilate so blood is not being forced through, allowing your blood pressure to drop to a safe level. Some individuals may be required to take Aceon as a long-term medication while others may be able to maintain a healthy BP with proper eating habits and being more active.
Fat, cholesterol, and other substances found in your blood can find their way into your coronary arteries and start to build up what’s known as plaque. You cannot feel it, but it is there and will continue to build up until the arteries are damaged from the force of the blood flow or they become totally blocked and your heart struggles to send and receive oxygen-rich blood to keep your tissues and other organs functioning. If your heart does not have a proper flow of blood, this muscle will become damaged and you could experience a heart attack. If you are diabetic with poor glucose control, you are at a higher risk of heart disease as high blood glucose levels cause damage to nerves and blood vessels.
If you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding, talk to your doctor about the safety of taking Aceon. Tell your doctor about other medical conditions or allergies you have and list any current OTC or Rx medications you take or use, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements. This will allow your doctor to determine if Aceon is right for your situation.
Until you know how your body will react to Aceon, avoid operating a vehicle, machinery, or any task that requires your full attention. If you are scheduled for any dental or surgical procedures, inform the medical staff well in advance that you are taking Aceon as you may have to stop taking it pre or post operatively for a specified period of time. Do not consume alcohol while on Aceon as it can also lower your pressure and may increase certain side effects.
