ARCAPTA NEOHALER (INDACATEROL)

Description of Arcapta Neohaler

Arcapta Neohaler is a steroid-free medicine prescribed as a long term treatment for controlling the symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a chronic lung disease that causes wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. Arcapta Neohaler is not prescribed for treating asthma or preventing asthma attacks and is not a cure for COPD.

What Happens When You Use Arcapta Neohaler?

The active ingredient in Arcapta Neohaler is Indacaterol, a bronchodilator that when inhaled as directed, will act on and stimulate the beta-2 receptors in your lungs which will relax the muscles in your airways and allow you to take easy breaths.

The dosage for Arcapta Neohaler is one pre-measured capsule placed into the inhaler. This powder is then inhaled from the device which is breath activated. As Arcapta Neohaler is lost-lasting, only one dose per day should be inhaled. You may still need a rescue inhaler for sudden breathing problems.

More Information About COPD

The term COPD includes two main conditions; emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Emphysema comes on gradually after years of exposure to cigarette smoke irritation. It begins with the destruction of the air sacs in your lungs where oxygen from the air is exchanged for carbon dioxide in your blood. The damage to the thin, fragile walls of the air sacs results in permanent holes in the tissue of your lower lungs. As these air sacs are destroyed, your lungs are unable to transfer enough oxygen to your bloodstream which causes a shortness of breath.

Chronic bronchitis typically occurs in those who smoke or are former smokers, or those who have endured long-term exposure to chemical fumes, pollution, or dust. The immune response causes inflammation; the inflammation in your bronchi causes mucus that leads to a cough. This cough can impair your breathing by making it hard to get air in and out of your lungs.

Before You Use Arcapta Neohaler

Tell your doctor about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Arcapta Neohaler. Also, talk to your doctor about your complete medical history, especially if you have heart or thyroid problems, seizures, high blood pressure, or diabetes. Advise your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or are breast feeding to be certain Arcapta Neohaler is safe for you to use.

Precautions When Using Arcapta Neohaler

Do not take an Arcapta Neohaler capsule by mouth. It is for use only in the Neohaler device. Arcapta Neohaler should not be used for severe sudden breathing problems as it is not a rescue medication, so always keep a fast-acting inhaler close at hand. Keep Arcapta Neohaler out of children’s reach and never share with anyone else.
