COMFORTIS PLUS FOR DOGS (SPINOSAD/MILBEMYCIN)

Control Worm and Flea Infestations with Comfortis Plus for Dogs

Comfortis Plus for Dogs is a beef-flavored tablet administered once a month to your dog or puppy at least 8 weeks of age, dosage is according to weight. Comfortis Plus for Dogs contains 2 active ingredients that prevent heartworm (adult and adolescent), prevent and treat flea infestations, and treat and control adult hookworm, roundworm, and whipworm. Symptoms of many of these insects and internal parasites include, scratching, itching, poor coat quality, weight loss, lethargy, hair loss, hot spots, and a host of other symptoms that will let you know your pet is in need of treatment with Comfortis Plus for Dogs.

How the Active Ingredients Work Externally and Internally

Spinosad is developed from a microbe that occurs naturally in soil. It works to interfere with the transmission of impulses that travel along the fleas’ nervous system and results in the insect becoming paralyzed so it cannot feed and will die quickly. Milbemycin works on the heartworms, hookworms, and whipworms much like Spinosad in that it interferes with the parasite’s neurological system so it cannot feed or remain attached to your dog’s intestines and the hookworms and whipworms are expelled in your pet’s feces while dead heartworms dissolve in the bloodstream.

What Happens with Heartworm Infection?

The heartworm larva is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito and will pass through your dog’s tissue and into the bloodstream. At about 47– 67 days after the bite, the larva have made it to the arteries of the dog’s lungs where they will develop and begin to cause damage. As juvenile adults, the heartworms work their way to the dog’s right ventricle of the heart. Without early detection and treatment, there will be permanent damage to the arteries and heart so blood flow becomes restricted, and the immune system signals inflammation to try and rid the pet’s body of the intruders. The outcome can be fatal.

Before Starting Your Pet on Comfortis Plus for Dogs

Your veterinarian will want to test for heartworm if your dog has never been on any heartworm treatment before and you want to do this before mosquito season starts where you live. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies your dog has and list any OTC and Rx drugs your dog is taking now, including herbal remedies and current flea or parasite treatments. Ask if Comfortis Plus is safe to give your dog if she is pregnant, nursing pups or is used for breeding.

Important Information About Comfortis Plus for Dogs
