CUTIVATE CREAM (FLUTICASONE PROPIONATE TOPICAL)

Description of Cutivate Cream

Cutivate Cream is a topical corticosteroid medicine that is prescribed to help reduce inflammatory skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. These skin conditions can flare up on occasion and cause you to itch and scratch the affected areas until you cause a break in your skin that can allow bacteria in and then you have an infection and bigger problem. Using Cutivate Cream or generic Fluticasone Propionate Topical during a flare up can help to prevent this from happening. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the same company that makes the brand product.

How Corticosteroids Work on Skin Cells

As Cutivate Cream is applied to the affected area as instructed, it is absorbed into your skin cells. Corticosteroids mimic the steroids naturally produced in your adrenal glands and by raising their level with Cutivate Cream; your immune system is suppressed and unable to send the chemicals that cause inflammation to the affected areas. Inflammation and swelling subsides and you are less likely to scratch the area and cause more damage.

Conditions Treated by Cutivate Cream

Eczema is also called atopic dermatitis and can flare-up when you’ve come into contact with everyday items, such as perfume, soaps, jewelry, certain clothing, and even your own sweat. Some researchers now believe that it is caused by structural defects in your skin that makes it easy for toxins and antigens to permeate the skin barrier.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that causes your immune system to attack its own tissues which sets off your inflammatory response. This causes an increase in skin cell production and because the old skin cells are not sloughing off at the rate of growth, you develop patches of thick, scaly skin. There is no cure for either of these conditions but Cutivate Cream is a great choice for finding relief from the redness, swelling, and inflammation.

Before You Use Cutivate Cream

Cutivate Cream should not be applied over large areas of skin as it may cause side effects. Unless told otherwise, do not cover the treated skin area with a dressing or bandage as this can increase the effects of Cutivate Cream and cause unwanted side effects. Inform your doctor of other conditions you may have and any OTC or Rx drugs you are taking, remembering to include herbal remedies and vitamin supplements.

Proper Use of Cutivate Cream

Cutivate cream is for topical use only. You should not use more than the recommended dose or use Cutivate Cream for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Keep Cutivate Cream and other meds out of children’s reach.
