EDARBI (AZILSARTAN MEDOXOMIL)

Edarbi Description

If you have consistently high blood pressure readings, your doctor may prescribe medication to decrease your risk of having a stroke or heart attack, developing permanent kidney damage or possible vision loss. Edarbi contains Azilsartan Medoxomil, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that will help lower your blood pressure.

A sensible diet, exercise, no more smoking, and taking Edarbi can add to your chances of avoiding health dangers. Some people may be able to control their blood pressure with a lifestyle change and not need to take Edarbi for the rest of their life. Smoking and even second hand smoke is a big risk factor for hypertension. There are few indicators, if any, that you have high blood pressure, so regular doctor visits are important, especially as you get older.

Edarbi Relaxes Blood Vessels to Lower Your BP

Edarbi blocks angiotensin II receptors in order to stop the action of the angiotensin II hormone. This hormone is involved with regulating your blood pressure and fluid balance by causing your blood vessels to narrow, and by having your kidneys retain salt and water. Both of these actions will cause blood pressure to rise and possible edema. This is a swelling in your face, hands, or feet that can occur from your kidneys retaining excess fluid and also contributes to narrowing blood vessels and increasing your pressure. By blocking the angiotensin II hormone, your blood vessels relax and your kidneys increase your urine output to expel excess salt and fluid.

Conditions Treated by Edarbi

Untreated or undiagnosed high blood pressure can cause tiny tears in your artery walls from the immense force of blood flowing through them. As the tears turn into scar tissue, your arterial walls become rough and start collecting plaque, which consists of cholesterol, calcium, and fatty substances. This build-up will narrow and harden your arteries and put a strain on your heart as it tries to pump blood and nutrients to your tissues and organs. If any of the deposits narrowing your arteries should break off, you are in danger of a blood clot becoming lodged and blocking off the blood supply to your heart or brain. It’s amazing how something like hypertension can cause so much damage without warning.

Before Edarbi is Prescribed

Your doctor should explain any risks and benefits of taking Edarbi if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies with your doctor and list any OTC or Rx drugs you take, including herbal remedies and dietary and vitamin supplements to be certain that Edarbi is safe for you

Edarbi Precautions

Limit your alcohol consumption as it can lower your blood pressure further and possibly cause hypotension. Make regular visits to your doctor to monitor your progress as dosage adjustments may be required, especially if you have changed your eating habits and have started to lose weight and be more active. You should not drive or perform any task that could be unsafe until you know how your body will react to Edarbi.
