ELOCOM LOTION (MOMETASONE)

Elocom Lotion Description

You can calm the symptoms of eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions that cause itching, redness, and painful inflammation with a prescription for Elocom Lotion. The active ingredient in Elocom Lotion is Mometasone, a topical corticosteroid medication you can apply to affected skin areas during a flare-up and for rashes from allergies. You really need something that will relieve the itching to avoid scratching so hard that you cause a lesion that can become infected. Elocom Lotion is ideal for hairy areas like your forearms, scalp, and unshaven legs.

Mometasone Inhibits the Production of Inflammatory Substances

Elocom Lotion is absorbed into your skin cells and inhibits the production of prostaglandins and other inflammatory chemicals to calm down your symptoms. Blood flow is regulated so inflammation is reduced. Elocom Lotion will not stop the healing process, but the amount of inflammatory chemicals will be reduced so symptoms are relieved.

Inflammation occurs when there is an injury to your body and your immune response tries to contain the threat and begin the healing process. Part of the problem with inflammation is that is causes more inflammation. Your blood vessels dilate and blood flow increases and other substances flood the area to get rid of the threat. Your skin becomes red, itchy and painful.

Uses for Elocom Lotion

There is no cure for eczema or psoriasis, only treatments that can provide relief from their symptoms that can flare-up. Eczema is believed to be caused by an impaired skin barrier that allows toxins and antigens to leak through and activate your immune system. Psoriasis is an immune-mediated skin condition. This means your immune system is over-active and interferes with your skin cell cycle. Instead of producing new cells every 28-30 days while the old cells are being shed or sloughing off, new skin cells are being produced every 3-6 days and will stick to the old cells that have not had time yet to fall off. The result is the raised rough patches of inflamed, itchy skin.

Before Elocom Lotion is Prescribed

Ask your doctor if Elocom Lotion is safe to apply while you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast feeding. Explain other medical conditions or allergies to your doctor and list any OTC and Rx drugs you currently take or use, as well as herbal remedies, and dietary or vitamin supplements to determine if Elocom Lotion is the right medication for you.

Elocom Lotion Precautions and Proper Use

Long-term use of any topical corticosteroid medication is not advised; Elocom Lotion should only be applied during flare-ups. There is no cure for eczema or psoriasis, but Elocom Lotion is an effective treatment that may be prescribed for 14 days until the flare-up is controlled. If there is no improvement after this time, revisit your doctor. Keep Elocom Lotion out of children’s reach and never share any medications with others. Elocom Lotion should not be applied to children under 12 years of age.
