FETZIMA (LEVOMILNACIPRAN)

Fetzima Description

Fetzima is one of the newer antidepressant drugs on the market and is classed as a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). If you are an adult and have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD), your doctor may recommend a prescription for Fetzima. The active ingredient of Fetzima is Levomilnacipran, a long-acting medication that will help you deal with your symptoms of sadness, anger, and frustration so you can start enjoying your life and the people in it.

Improve Your Symptoms of Depression with Fetzima

It’s believed that a change in the balance of chemicals in your brain, called neurotransmitters, can greatly affect your outlook on life, work, and family. This may cause depression for some individuals because each brain chemical has a job to do and some can affect your moods, behavior, memory, sleep, and so on.

As serotonin and norepinephrine are released from nerve cells in your brain, your mood lightens and you feel pretty good and positive about things. But when these neurotransmitters are reabsorbed, your moods can change. Fetzima inhibits the absorption (reuptake) of serotonin and norepinephrine so there is more available in your brain to prolong your positive mood. Fetzima is not a cure for depression, but it can help you regain the ability to do the things you enjoy.

Conditions Treated by Fetzima

Depression is recognized as a very real medical condition that could also result from traumatic childhood or life events, a chronic illness, substance abuse, work demands, and your gender. Women are more likely to experience depression than men are. It can also run in families so you may be more aware of some of the symptoms you or another family member is displaying, such as sadness, lack of energy or appetite, trouble sleeping or sleeping too much, and suicidal thoughts.

Some individuals may be embarrassed to talk to anyone about their feelings and their mental and physical health can decline unless help is sought. Tell your doctor, tell your family, tell your friends, because a great support system will aid in your recovery.

Before You Take Fetzima

Ask your doctor if Fetzima is safe for an unborn or nursing baby if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding before taking Fetzima. Discuss other medical conditions and allergies you have and list all OTC and Rx drugs you are taking, including dietary or vitamin supplements and herbal remedies. This will provide your doctor with the information needed to determine if Fetzima is the right medication for you.

Fetzima Precautions

Fetzima should not be given to anyone under the age of 18 years. Be aware of the possibility of suicidal thoughts and seek help right away. Your doctor may require you to have your heart rate and blood pressure checked regularly while taking Fetzima and dosage adjustments may be made so you receive the best results. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Fetzima as it can increase the effects too much.
