Flovent Diskus Description

Flovent Diskus is a steroid medication used in the treatment of asthma for people aged four years and up. Flovent Diskus contains the active ingredient Fluticasone Propionate in an oral inhaler that is used twice daily as a slow-acting asthma medication treatment. A fast acting inhaler may also be needed for active asthma attacks. You will need a valid prescription from a doctor to purchase Flovent Diskus.

How You Can Reduce Asthma Attacks and Symptoms

Flovent Diskus is an inhaled corticosteroid medication that reduces symptoms of wheezing and coughing as it decreases inflammation in the lungs, thereby opening your airways. When used regularly as prescribed, inhaled Flovent Diskus decreases the number and severity of asthma attacks. However, it will not relieve an asthma attack that has already started; you should always keep a rescue inhaler on hand for this purpose.

Conditions Treated by Flovent Diskus

You can use Flovent Diskus if you have been diagnosed with asthma, a chronic lung condition that can cause absenteeism from work, school, and social events. Asthma is believed to be an autoimmune disease that can have many triggers that send your immune system a false alert that you are in danger or under threat. Inflammatory inducing chemicals are produced and inflammation appears in your airways to try and heal the damage but instead, the area becomes more irritated.

There is no cure for asthma, but Flovent Diskus should help manage the symptoms by blocking inflammation-causing chemicals in your body and allow you to continue on with your day.

Before You Use Flovent Diskus

Ask if Flovent Diskus is safe to use if you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or are breast feeding. Do not start using Flovent Diskus until you inform your doctor of all bacterial, fungal, viral, or parasitic infections you may have as Flovent Diskus suppresses your immune system to help fight the inflammation. Additionally, be sure to inform your doctor whether you have been diagnosed with glaucoma, cataracts, or kidney disease.

Precautions for Flovent Diskus

During treatment, you will need to watch for signs of osteoporosis (bone loss). These include back pain, loss of height, and increasingly poor posture, and should be reported to your doctor as soon as possible. Flovent Diskus does not react well when combined with certain antibiotic, anti-fungal, and steroid drugs so make sure to consult with your doctor before starting any other medications.
