LIDEX CREAM (CALLED TIAMOL IN CANADA)-FLUOCINONIDE

Lidex Cream Description

Lidex Cream, called Tiamol in Canada, is a high potency glucocorticoid steroid medicine that can help relieve the inflammation, itching, redness, and discomfort of eczema, psoriasis, and other skin dermatoses, including allergic reactions. Calming the itch is important so you avoid scratching and breaking the skin where bacteria can enter and cause an infection.

Applying Lidex Cream or generic Fluocinonide topically to the affected area of your skin also helps hydrate the dry scales of eczema or psoriasis and will not feel heavy or greasy as it is absorbed easily. There is no cure for eczema or psoriasis, only treatments. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

Reducing Your Immune Response Brings Symptom Relief

When applied as directed, Lidex Cream is absorbed into your skin cells where the active ingredient suppresses your immune system by blocking the action of the enzymes cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 (COX-1, COX-2). COX-1 regulates your baseline levels of prostaglandins when your body is working normally, and COX-2 kicks in to produce extra prostaglandins when there is an injury.

Prostaglandins are usually to blame for your inflammation, pain, and swelling as a way to start the healing process. By preventing the COX enzymes from sending prostaglandins, the inflammation and swelling will subside and you can find relief from the pain and itching.

Two Common Skin Conditions That Benefit from Lidex Cream

According to recent research, eczema is believed to be a result of abnormalities in your skin structure that allow toxins and antigens to enter the outer layer of your skin (epidermis) and cause allergic reactions that include itching, redness, and inflammation as your immune system responds to a perceived threat.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease that is caused by an immune system that has over-reacted and attacks your own body’s tissues. So instead of new skin cells being produced every 28-30 days, the affected areas are becoming over run with new cells every 3-6 days. These cells bunch up into scaly patches of skin that flake off easily. Under the top layer are lesions from cells sticking together and becoming tender, red, and can bleed easily.

Before Lidex Cream is Prescribed

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast feeding before applying Lidex Cream to be certain it is safe. To determine if Lidex Cream is the best medication for you, explain to your doctor other medical conditions or allergies you have and list any OTC or Rx drugs you take, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements.

Lidex Cream Precautions

You should not apply Lidex Cream longer than recommended by your doctor as it can cause thinning of the skin area you are treating. Unless otherwise instructed, do not cover or bandage the treated area or you could increase your risk of side effects. Lidex Cream is not for treating children under the age of 12 years as safety and effectiveness has not been determined.
