What is Lidex Ointment?

Lidex Ointment is a potent topical corticosteroid prescribed to treat a variety of skin conditions including psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (eczema), allergies, and rash. By applying Lidex Ointment on to itchy, inflamed, flakey patches of skin as soon as you notice the irritation or flare-up of eczema and psoriasis, you decrease the risk of scratching and breaking the skin barrier where infections can start.

Although inflammation is a product of your immune system trying to heal the affected area, it can cause continued discomfort. When you apply Lidex Ointment as directed, the corticosteroid called Fluocinonide is absorbed into your skin cells, where it activates natural substances in the skin to reduce redness, swelling, and itching. There is no cure for eczema or psoriasis, but Lidex Ointment can help you manage flare-ups as needed.

Generic Fluocinonide is a more cost-effective alternative to Lidex Ointment. It is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

What is Lidex Ointment used for?

Lidex Ointment and Lidex generic are helpful solutions for more than just psoriasis and eczema. Bug bites, bee stings, poison ivy, and allergic skin reactions are good reasons to keep Lidex Ointment on hand while enjoying the outdoors while camping, sightseeing, or hiking. When your immune system detects a possible danger to the outside of your body, you may develop itchy, red, inflamed areas on your skin. The affected area swells from the inflammatory chemicals working to protect, while blood vessels dilate to improve blood flow and white blood cells begin healing the damaged tissue. Lidex Ointment is like a mediator and helps calm down swelling, irritation, and itchiness.

What to know before using Lidex Ointment

  • Tell your physician about any conditions you have and any medications you take, including non-prescription medication, vitamins, and supplements.
  • Ask your doctor about the risks of applying Lidex Ointment if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding.
  • Do not apply Lidex Ointment to any areas of your skin that may be infected.
  • Do not cover the treated area with any dressing unless your doctor instructs you to do so as this can increase the absorption of Lidex Ointment.
  • Use Lidex Ointment for the prescribed period of time; long-term use of corticosteroids can cause thinning of your skin.
  • Do not apply Lidex Ointment to young children without first talking to your doctor or pediatrician.
  • Let your physician know if you experience any Lidex Ointment or generic Fluocinonide side effects.
