LUXIQ FOAM (BETAMETHASONE VALERATE)

Luxiq Foam Description

Luxiq Foam contains a medium potency corticosteroid that is applied topically to your scalp and may be prescribed to treat scalp dermatoses such as seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis. Neither of these conditions are contagious, nor do they have a cure. However, there are treatments such as Luxiq Foam that can help control the itching, flaking, and redness that they can cause. A flakey scalp is not necessarily a sign of poor personal hygiene, but it can be embarrassing.

How Luxiq Foam Can Help Keep Your Scalp Healthy Looking

When applied as directed, Luxiq Foam is absorbed into your skin cells where the active ingredient, Betamethasone Valerate, goes to work by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins and other inflammatory substances that are signaled when there is an allergen or irritation detected. By blocking this action, the redness, inflammation, and itching are decreased. Scratching the flakey areas can cause a possible break in your skin and the risk of infection increases. This is why it’s so important to be ready for flare-ups when your symptoms are triggered.

Conditions Treated by Luxiq Foam

Seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis share similar treatments but scalp psoriasis can be more persistent and require treatment for a longer period. Scalp psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that causes new skin cells to make their way to the skin surface faster the dead skin cells slough off. This is how the raised patches of skin forms and may even result in hair loss as it takes over your scalp area.

It is believed that seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) is caused by the over-production of sebum which is the natural skin oil that occurs as a result of increased hormone levels. The patchy scales are removed quite easily unlike scalp psoriasis that forms a horny layer and can be sore.

Before Luxiq Foam is Prescribed to You

Ask your doctor if Luxiq Foam is considered safe to use if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding. Discuss other medical conditions and allergies you have with your doctor and provide information regarding any over the counter or Rx medications you take or use, including herbal preparations and vitamin supplements. This will help your doctor determine whether Luxiq Foam is the right treatment for you.

Luxiq Foam Precautions and Proper Use

Do not dispense Luxiq Foam directly into your hands to apply because it will begin melting right away from the warmth of your skin. Use a clean bowl, small plate, or other cool surface and use your fingertips to pick up and apply Luxiq Foam directly to your scalp. If Luxiq Foam gets in your eyes, flush it out with cool tap water right away. Luxiq Foam is flammable so it should not be applied around an open flame or while smoking.
