MELLARIL (THIORIDAZINE)

Mellaril Description

If you are having problems with getting your symptoms of schizophrenia under control, talk to your doctor about Mellaril or generic Thioridazine. This is a phenothiazine medication that can help you manage your paranoia, hallucinations, and abnormal motor behavior, among others. Your behavior can cost you your family, job, education, and any hopes or dreams you once had unless you seek drug treatment and therapy. Your family is your best support system and can be essential to your becoming well again. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

How does Mellaril Work?

When taken as directed, the active ingredient will target at least one of your neurotransmitters called dopamine. This brain chemical communicates information throughout your body and brain and helps you to focus, be motivated, and works on your depression as well. Schizophrenics have been found to have too much dopamine which can be the reason for their symptoms, so Mellaril is formulated to block the dopamine receptors which results in reducing the effects of dopamine in your brain. There is no cure for schizophrenia, but with Mellaril and the right treatment plan, you can enjoy your life again.

Conditions Treated by Mellaril

There are five subtypes of schizophrenia;

  • Paranoid-prominent symptoms are hearing voices and delusions, and are able to work and live independently.
  • Disorganized-inappropriate emotional expressions with disorganized speech or actions, independent living or working is doubtful.
  • Catatonic-abnormal movements, may become physically rigid or refuse to speak.
  • Undifferentiated-does not fall into the first 3 categories but may have one or more symptoms that include hallucinations, delusions, cannot carry out goal-oriented tasks, or significantly impaired speech or behavior.
  • Residual-has a history of schizophrenic episodes but does not display any of the above symptoms upon evaluation.
