Sodium picosulfate; magnesium oxide; citric acid, anhydrous is a laxative. It is used to clean out the bowel before a colonoscopy.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions: -dehydration -difficulty swallowing -heart disease -high or low levels of calcium, magnesium, potassium, or sodium in the blood -history of irregular heartbeat -kidney disease -seizures -stomach or intestine problems -an unusual or allergic reaction to sodium picosulfate; magnesium oxide; anhydrous citric acid, other medicines, dyes, or preservatives -pregnant or trying to get pregnant -breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine?

Take this medicine by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Clenpiq is ready to drink. Each dose of Prepopik must be mixed with 150 mL (5 ounces) of cold water before taking the dose. Your doctor will tell you what time to start this medicine. Take exactly as directed. You will need to drink additional clear fluids after each dose. Do not skip a dose or stop your medicine early. Take other oral medicines 2 hours before or 6 hours after this medicine to avoid decreasing their absorption. You will need to follow a special diet before your procedure. Talk to your doctor. You may drink clear liquids while taking this medicine and up until 2 hours before colonoscopy. A special MedGuide will be given to you by the pharmacist with each prescription and refill. Be sure to read this information carefully each time. Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. While Prepopik may be prescribed for children as young as 9 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once. NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

What should I watch for while using this medicine?

You will need to follow a special diet before your procedure. Talk to your healthcare professional. Talk to your healthcare professional if you are not able to complete the regimen as prescribed. Do not use with any other laxatives. Drink clear fluids as directed to prevent dehydration. See your healthcare professional right away if you do not have a bowel movement after using this medicine.

Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible: -allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue -breathing problems -confusion -dizziness -fast, irregular heartbeat -feeling faint or lightheaded, falls -seizures -trouble passing urine or change in the amount of urine -vomiting Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome): -bloating -diarrhea -mild headache -nausea -stomach pain -upset stomach.
