Afinitor (Everolimus) 10mg tablets can be prescribed for treating breast cancer (advance stage, hormone-receptor-positive, HER2-negative), neuroendocrine tumor (digestive tract, pancreas, rectum, lungs, or appendix) , and renal cell carcinoma (kidney). The usual dosage of Afinitor is 1 tablet taken once a day at the same time each day, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach or following a small fat-free meal. This dosage may change depending on the disease, your response to the drug, and other current therapies.
Your oncologist should be informed of other medical conditions and allergies you have and any current medications you are taking to be certain of any interference or severe side effects you could experience when adding Afinitor to your regimen.
You should not consume alcohol or smoke during treatment with Afinitor as this could make the drug less effective. Store Afinitor in a dry place, away from light, heat, and out of children’s reach. Discuss drugs you can take for mild aches and pain during your treatment.
It will be recommended to use at least 2 forms of birth control during treatment with Afinitor and at least for 2 months after treatment. Afinitor can pass into breast milk so you will need to change to formula bottle feedings.
Side Effects that may occur while taking Afinitor include mouth sores, fatigue, dry skin, decreased appetite, nausea and vomiting, taste changes. If any of these side effects worsen or become bothersome, speak with your doctor. Your blood sugar may also rise so monitor glucose levels closely if you are a diabetic.
