AZOR (AMLODIPINE/OLMESARTAN)

Azor Description

Azor combines two medications, Amlodipine and Olmesartan in one pill to treat high blood pressure (also known as hypertension). Each medication works in a different way to help control high blood pressure. Azor and generic Amlodipine/Olmesartan is available in pill form to be taken orally and may be prescribed alone or with other medications to treat high blood pressure. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

Along with Azor, your doctor may recommend that you cut out salt from your diet, lose weight, be more active, quit smoking, and take Azor regularly to benefit from its blood pressure lowering abilities. You can also monitor and record your blood pressure and visit your doctor periodically to be certain you are taking the right dosage.

How Each Drug Works to Lower BP

Amlodipine belongs to a class of medicines known as calcium channel blockers that relax and widen blood vessels, so that the heart does not have to work so hard. Olmesartan blocks the effect of a chemical called angiotensin II, which causes the blood vessels to tighten. By preventing the action of angiotensin II, Olmesartan helps your blood vessels to relax so the blood flow is adequate and your heart does not need to work as hard.

Conditions Treated by Azor

Hypertension usually develops when circulation becomes impeded, causing your blood to push harder against your arteries. It is a serious condition, one that strains the entire cardiovascular system and puts you at risk for heart attacks and strokes. There is no cure, but Azor will act to relax the muscles of the heart and arteries and improve blood flow.

Many patients are totally unaware of having high blood pressure because there are no indicators to alert you. This is why it is important to see your doctor regularly as this is the most common way of finding out your blood pressure is high and can pose many other health risks.

Before You Take Azor

It is important for your doctor to access your whole health history before you start taking Azor, including if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast feeding. In particular, they should know if you have ever been diagnosed with kidney, liver, or heart disease. Provide a list of current OTC and Rx drugs, herbal remedies, and vitamin supplements you take or use and if you are diabetic, as certain diabetes medications may interfere with Azor.

Precautions When Taking Azor

During treatment, you will need to watch for signs of skeletal muscle breakdown; these include nausea, fever, and muscle pain or weakness, and must be reported to your doctor right away. You should avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and diuretic pills while taking Azor, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects of Azor
