DIPROSONE LOTION (BETAMETHASONE DIPROPIONATE)

Description of Diprosone Lotion

If you are failing at keeping your scalp psoriasis, eczema, or seborrheic dermatitis under control, talk to your doctor about a prescription for Diprosone Lotion. The active ingredient is Betamethasone Dipropionate, a topical corticosteroid that is the same strength and formulation as certain other topical treatments, but less is absorbed into your bloodstream so there are fewer side effects that using corticosteroids on your skin can cause.

Relief From Inflammatory Skin Conditions

Once applied to your scalp as directed, Diprosone Lotion will work inside your skin cells to decrease the substances in your body that cause inflammation. These substances include prostaglandins and leukotrienes that dilate blood vessels and cause the swollen and inflamed symptoms of psoriasis, eczema, and other skin dermatoses. By inhibiting their production, your blood vessels will narrow and the itching, flaky skin patches will calm down and provide you with relief from scratching and pain.

Conditions Treated by Diprosone Lotion

Scalp psoriasis is a common and bothersome skin condition that can leave you with raised red patches that itch and flake off onto your clothing and can cause embarrassment to some. The cause of psoriasis, no matter what part of your body is affected, is thought to be a result of erroneous messages your immune system receives that causes it to attack your own tissues or organs. This autoimmune disease causes skin cells to grow too fast and build up into patches on your skin as the old skin cells have no time to fall or slough off to make room for the abundant new cells. Diprosone Lotion is thin enough to be massaged into your scalp and gain control of the inflammation, but it is not a cure for psoriasis or eczema.

Before Diprosone Lotion is Prescribed

Ask your doctor about any risks of using Diprosone Lotion if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast feeding. Before applying Diprosone Lotion, discuss other medical conditions or allergies with your doctor and list any OTC or Rx meds you take or use, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements. This will help your doctor determine if Betamethasone Dipropionate is safe for you.

Diprosone Lotion Precautions

If there is no improvement of your scalp condition after 2 weeks of using Diprosone Lotion, revisit your doctor. Do not use Diprosone Lotion more than recommended by your doctor or cover your head with any occlusive dressings or shower cap after applying unless told to do so by your doctor. Do not share this medication with others, even if they have the same symptoms. Do not store any medicinal products within children’s reach. Once you see positive results from Diprosone Lotion, your doctor may advise using it only once a day.
