Durezol 0.05% Description

Your doctor may prescribe Durezol 0.05% following cataract surgery, a procedure to remove the lens of your eye and replace it with an artificial one. A cataract causes the lens of your eye to become cloudy, adversely affecting your vision. The most common reason for a cataract to develop is increasing age. This is not a cure for cataracts, but a treatment to minimize post surgical symptoms following surgery.

For Post-Surgical Treatment to Decrease Inflammation and Swelling

Durezol 0.05% eye drops contain a steroid drug called Difluprednate Ophthalmic Emulsion that treats the inflammation, pain and swelling that can occur after ocular surgery by stopping certain inflammation-causing substances from being released in the body. Durezol 0.05% and other ophthalmic corticosteroids are used to prevent permanent damage to the eye, which may occur with certain eye problems that involve inflammation. They also provide relief from redness, irritation, and other discomfort.

Conditions Treated by Durezol 0.05%

Cataracts are slightly more common in people who have diabetes, have had a significant eye injury, have a family history of cataracts, and those who have used corticosteroid medications for an extended period of time. Cataract surgery is performed by an eye doctor on an outpatient basis and medication such as Durezol 0.05% may be prescribed short-term to alleviate inflammation and pain following the procedure.

Durezol 0.05% may also be prescribed to treat anterior uveitis, a condition that causes inflammation of the middle layer of the eye. Trauma to the eye or a variety of health issues may lead to anterior uveitis (AV), although in most cases the underlying cause is not apparent. AV responds well to treatment with prescription medications such as Durezol 0.05%, although the condition may be recurrent. If untreated, anterior uveitis can cause permanent damage and loss of vision.

Before Durezol 0.05% is Prescribed

You should advise your doctor of any other medical problems before beginning treatment with Durezol 0.05%, especially if you have type 2 diabetes or any eye infections. Provide a list of current Rx and non-Rx drugs you take or use so your doctor can determine if Durezol 0.05% is right for your situation.

Durezol 0.05% Precautions and Recommendations

Intraocular pressure should be monitored closely as prolonged use of ophthalmic corticosteroids may result in cataract and/or glaucoma formation, a fungal infection, or optic nerve damage. You should only use Durezol 0.05% for the length of time it was prescribed. Do not share this medication with anyone else and always store meds out of children’s reach.

Due to temporary impaired vision after instilling Durezol 0.05%, do not attempt any activities that require your sight, such as driving, going for a walk, or signing any documents.
