INVOKAMET (CANAGLIFLOZIN/METFORMIN HYDROCHLORIDE)

Invokamet Description

If you and your doctor feel that your type 2 diabetes is still not under control, you may be advised to start taking Invokamet. This drug is not prescribed for type 1 diabetes patients as it requires some of your own insulin to be able to work as it is designed to. Invokamet is taken along with dieting and exercise to reduce your blood glucose levels. Uncontrolled blood glucose can greatly increase your risk of heart disease and a possible heart attack or stroke so it’s important to follow your doctor’s instructions and monitor your glucose levels.

Invokamet Provides 2 Ways for You to Control Your Blood Sugar

Invokamet contains 2 active ingredients to help keep your blood glucose in check, Canagliflozin and Metformin Hydrochloride. The first, Canagliflozin, is called a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor and works with your kidneys to help remove excess sugar from your body through the process of urination. SGLT2 is a protein in your body that assists in the reabsorption of glucose in your kidneys. Invokamet inhibits this action and increases glucose excretion when you urinate.

Next is Metformin Hydrochloride that works a few ways in your body to control blood sugar levels. It stimulates your pancreas into producing more Insulin that will carry glucose to your cells and store as energy, then it will turn its attention to your liver and decrease the amount of sugar that produced by the cells in your liver, and finally, Metformin Hydrochloride delays sugar absorption from your intestines into your bloodstream after a meal.

Conditions Treated by Invokamet

Type 2 diabetes is more prevalent than type 1 and occurs as a result of the tissues in your body gradually becoming more resistant to Insulin, a hormone produced in your pancreas. The reason for this resistance is not known but has been linked to obesity and is often hereditary. With the decrease of Insulin, not enough glucose is being taken from your bloodstream to be stored in cells so your sugar level is high and causes you to feel tired, urinate more, experience headaches, blurred vision, and increased thirst.

Before Invokamet is Prescribed

If you are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, or are breast feeding, tell your doctor before taking Invokamet as it may pose a risk to your unborn or nursing baby. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies with your doctor and list any OTC or Rx drugs you currently take or use, including herbal products and supplements, to be certain Invokamet is safe for you to take.

Invokamet Precautions

Do not change your dosage of Invokamet unless instructed by your doctor. Until you know how Invokamet will affect you, do not drive or attempt any activity that requires you to be alert. Store Invokamet and all other drugs out of children’s reach. Keep all doctor and lab appointments as it’s essential for monitoring how your body is reacting to Invokamet.
