MAXALT MLT (CALLED MAXALT RPD IN CANADA) (RIZATRIPTAN)

Maxalt MLT Description

Maxalt MLT (melt) is from the family of triptan drugs that can be prescribed for the treatment of migraine headaches, with or without aura. This is not a cure for migraines, nor will it prevent a migraine attack or the number of times you experience a migraine. Maxalt MLT or generic Rizatriptan is taken at the first indication you are getting a migraine and will not work for other types of migraine headaches, including only one side of your head being affected (hemiplegic) and those affecting the area around your eye (ophthalmoplegic). The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

Decreasing Blood Flow Will Help Reduce Migraine pain

Maxalt MLT (called RPD in Canada) is dissolved under your tongue and enters your bloodstream and travels to your brain. As a serotonin receptor agonist, Rizatriptan generic or brand will act by mimicking serotonin and stimulate the receptors so the blood vessels will constrict. This action reduces the blood flow that is believed to be the cause of your migraine pain. Other chemicals are also stopped from being released and you should feel relief within 30 minutes and reach maximum relief about 2 hours after taking Maxalt MLT. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

Conditions Treated by Maxalt MLT

The more common type of migraine is one without aura. You experience a throbbing or pulsing pain that can last between 4 and 72 hours if you are not receiving an effective treatment. The head pain for some is so severe that they are unable to carry out daily tasks, go to work or school, drive, or tolerate bright lights or loud noises.

A migraine with aura can be experienced with all of the symptoms as without an aura, but this type usually involves visual disturbances that can begin before the migraine pain. You may see flashing or zig-zag lights, colored spots, or blind-spots in your field of vision that warn you a migraine is about to occur. This allows you to take Maxalt MLT right away to calm down the migraine before it becomes intense. Some individuals may only have the aura and never have to endure the pain of a migraine.

Before Maxalt MLT is Prescribed

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast feeding to be certain of any risks that Maxalt MLT may be harmful to your unborn or nursing baby. Explain other medical conditions or allergies you have to your doctor and list any OTC and Rx medications you currently take or use, including vitamin or dietary supplements and herbal remedies. This will help your doctor to determine if Maxalt MLT is right for your situation.

Maxalt MLT Precautions and Proper Use

Until you know how Maxalt MLT will affect you, avoid driving or attempting any task that may be considered unsafe if you are not clear-headed. Maxalt LT is prescribed for children aged 6-17 years old and dosage is based on weight and there are 2 strengths for adults that may be based on the severity of your symptoms. Read the instructions carefully to know how to extract the Maxalt MLT disintegrating tablet safely from the package. Store Maxalt MLT safely out of children’s reach and never share meds with anyone else.
