The active ingredient of Mirvaso Gel is Brimonidine, a selective alpha agonist. When applied as directed, Mirvaso Gel will work by stimulating the alpha receptors found on the muscle of blood vessel walls in the skin of your face. This will result in the blood vessels narrowing and reducing facial redness as the blood flow decreases. This is a temporary fix and not a cure for rosacea. Avoidance of your triggers will help to inhibit any flare-ups.

Conditions Treated by Mirvaso Gel

A flare-up of rosacea can occur from exercising, hot or cold weather, wind, exposure to sunlight, eating spicy food, or consuming alcohol. It is usually the light-skinned population that are more susceptible to rosacea. This is not like acne that you will eventually grow out of, this is a long-term condition that you will have to deal with or ignore for many years.

Before Mirvaso Gel is Prescribed

Ask your doctor about the safety of using Mirvaso Gel while you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or if you are breast feeding. Discuss any medical conditions or allergies you have with your doctor and list the OTC and Rx medications you currently take or use, including herbal and vitamin supplements, to be certain there will not be any adverse interactions with the use of Mirvaso Gel. If you wear make-up or use other creams or lotions on your face, apply Mirvaso Gel first and allow it to be absorbed before other products are applied.

Mirvaso Gel Precautions and Proper Use

Some Mirvaso Gel users may experience a worsening or rebound of the redness after applying it. See your doctor for ways to resolve this problem. Mirvaso Gel should not be used by any person under 18 years of age. Keep this, and other meds, out of children’s reach and do not share Mirvaso Gel with others. Do not apply Mirvaso Gel to broken or irritated skin or following any laser skin treatments. Be careful not to get Mirvaso in your eyes or mouth when applying to your face.
