NASONEX NASAL SPRAY (MOMETASONE FUROATE)

Nasonex Nasal Spray Description

Nasonex nasal spray contains Mometasone Furoate, a type of drug known as a corticosteroid. Nasonex nasal spray or the generic alternative Mometasone Furoate may be prescribed to treat the symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergies. Symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose and sinus discomfort as a result of inflammation in the nasal passages caused by exposure to an allergen. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

How a Corticosteroid Will Help Ease Allergy Symptoms

Allergens, including pollen, smoke, pet dander, and mold, cause the cells in your nose to release chemicals that produce the unpleasant symptoms of hay fever and year round allergies. Nasonex nasal spray is absorbed into the cells of the nasal passages where it works by preventing these cells from releasing the chemicals that trigger the allergic response. The result is reduced inflammation so you can breathe easier as your symptoms subside.

Conditions Treated by Nasonex Nasal Spray

Nasonex nasal spray may be prescribed to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis, often referred to as “hay fever”. This most common of all the allergic diseases is an allergic reaction to air borne substances such as pollen that typically causes watery and itchy eyes, sneezing, or a congested or runny nose. Limiting outdoor activities when pollen levels are high is recommended, but not always possible.

Unlike hay fever or seasonal allergies, perennial allergic rhinitis refers to year round allergy symptoms to every day allergens such as mold, dust mites or pets. Perennial allergic rhinitis can have a significant impact on a person’s quality of life. While avoiding known allergens plays a key role in the management of year round allergies, this may not always be possible.

Nasonex Nasal Spray may also be prescribed to treat nasal polyps. These are non-cancerous growths that occur when the linings of the sinuses become inflamed and swollen. These inflamed linings push out into the nasal passages and forming polyps, which may make it difficult to breathe through the nose. Nasonex Nasal Spray reduces the inflammation and helps to shrink the polyps.

Before Nasonex Nasal Spray is Prescribed

Also tell your doctor if you have glaucoma or cataracts, herpes simplex infection of your eyes, tuberculosis, sores or ulcers in your nose, or if you have recently had injury of or surgery on your nose.

Nasonex Nasal Spray Proper Use and Recommendations

Nasonex nasal spray does not relieve the symptoms of nasal inflammation right away. With continued use as directed, it can take a few days to feel better and up to 2 weeks for full benefits.
