Sanctura Description

Sanctura belongs to the class of anti-spasmodic drugs that help treat an overactive bladder. It is delivered as an oral pill, and should be taken at least one hour before eating. You will also find it in its generic form, under the name Trospium Chloride. A valid prescription is needed to start taking Sanctura or generic Trospium Chloride. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

Sanctura works by blocking specific receptors in your bladder so the muscles are able to relax. This means your bladder is not being squeezed and you have less urgency to urinate.

Conditions Treated by Sanctura

Overactive urinary bladder (OAB) is also referred to as urge incontinence. The condition is characterized by the sudden and strong need to urinate due to bladder contractions. You may also experience other symptoms like nighttime urination and involuntary loss of urine, which are all caused by uncontrolled spasms in your bladder muscles.

Neurological problems and bladder irritation are the common causes of overactive bladder. Underlying conditions may include bladder cancer; bladder inflammation and obstruction in the bladder; certain infections; and nervous system disorders. Before You Take Sanctura

Ask your doctor about the safety of taking Sanctura if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding. Sanctura may not be right for you if you have glaucoma or an intestinal blockage, or if you are unable to urinate. Be sure to tell your doctor about any kidney disease, liver disease, or prostate condition and list any current OTC and Rx drugs you take, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements.

Warnings for Sanctura

During treatment, you will need to stay adequately hydrated; failing to do so may increase your risk of stroke so remember to drink fluids throughout the day. Do not consume alcohol while taking Sanctura as it can decrease your antidiuretic hormone production so your body is unable to reabsorb water.

Some medications and foods can interact negatively with Sanctura. These include certain bronchodilators and irritable bowel syndrome or ulcer medications, as well as alcoholic beverages, and should only be used as per your doctor’s instructions.
