SYNALAR CREAM (FLUOCINOLONE)

Synalar Cream Description

Synalar Cream is a lower mid-strength corticosteroid medication that is applied topically to your skin when you have a flare-up of eczema or psoriasis, experience an allergic reaction to something you’ve come in contact with, or have been stung or bitten by an insect. These skin conditions can cause your skin to become inflamed, swollen, and itchy. The sooner you can reduce the inflammation and soothe the itch, the better chance you will have of avoiding an infection from scratching the skin.

Synalar Cream or generic Fluocinolone is best suited for larger and less hairy areas of skin for effective relief without a greasy feel, but there is a variety of formulations available including one with an antibiotic. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

How Synalar Cream Reduces Pain and Inflammation

When applied as directed, Synalar Cream is quickly absorbed into your skin cells where it works to inhibit your immune response to an injury by suppressing the production of inflammatory chemicals that will be directed to the site. Your skin condition will usually start with an irritation that graduates to inflammation as a way to start the healing process.

Synalar Cream can calm the inflammation process so you will still heal, but also find relief from the pain and reduce the risk of broken skin from scratching the area. Any skin lesions that appear to be infected should also be treated with an antibiotic medicine so you should visit your doctor before trying to treat on your own.

Conditions Treated by Synalar Cream

Risk factors for eczema can include stress, genetics, pollution, food allergies, and even where you live. It commonly starts in infancy and can continue through childhood. Many people outgrow eczema by adulthood, but some can continue to have flare-ups and need a reprieve from the itching, inflamed skin areas. Psoriasis is believed to result from an over-active immune system that believes your skin to be under attack so it produces inflammatory chemicals that are to blame for your situation. Neither eczema nor psoriasis are contagious, nor are they curable. But there are treatments such as Synalar Cream for calming the inflammation and reducing pain.

Before Synalar Cream is Prescribed

Ask your doctor if Synalar Cream is safe to apply if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or are breast feeding. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies you have with your doctor and list any OTC or Rx drugs you are taking, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements. This will help your doctor decide if Synalar Cream is the right medicine for you.

Proper Use of Synalar Cream

Watch for signs of infection from scratching the skin areas as you will need an antibiotic medicine as well. Do not use Synalar Cream long-term without consulting your doctor due to the risk of certain side effects throughout your body, especially for young children as it can delay their growth rate. Do not cover or bandage the treated area after applying Synalar Cream, unless instructed by your doctor. Call your doctor if there is no improvement in the treated area, or if symptoms worsen after 7-10 days.
