Hypertension has become a global public health issue that contributes to over nine million deaths annually. There are few, if any, symptoms of having high blood pressure so the average person would not even be aware of the potential risk of a heart attack, stroke, or kidney disease unless diagnosed by their doctor.
If you have been diagnosed with hypertension, your doctor may recommend a prescription for Tekturna HCT to lower your blood pressure. Tekturna HCT contains two active ingredients, Aliskiren and HCT (Hydrochlorothiazide).
Aliskiren is a renin inhibitor that works by blocking the activity of the enzyme known as renin. This enzyme is responsible for converting angiotensinogen to angiotensin I, and then the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) converts the angiotensin I into the angiotensin II. Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor that can narrow your blood vessels which drives up your blood pressure due to the force required for your blood to be transported around to your organs and other tissues.
HCT or HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) is a calcium-sparing diuretic that inhibits your kidneys from retaining water by increasing your urine output without losing calcium. This action reduces the volume of your blood so your heart does not have to work as hard to pump blood to other organs and tissues. Your blood pressure will be reduced as a normal blood flow is restored.
Lifestyle changes can help prevent hypertension for some individuals or at least keep it in check. You may be instructed to eat healthier, lower your salt intake and alcohol consumption, exercise, stop smoking, and take Tekturna HCT. By lowering your blood pressure, you are also reducing your chances of a heart attack, stroke, or kidney disease. Remember, just because you feel okay, doesn’t mean you are; so see your doctor regularly to monitor for blood pressure.
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast-feeding before taking Tekturna HCT as it can be harmful to your developing or nursing baby. You should use an effective birth control method; at least until your blood pressure is stabilized and maintain it with a proper diet. Discuss your medical history with your doctor so it can be determined if any allergies or current health conditions you have will interfere with taking Tekturna HCT or cause any unintended adverse reactions.
You should not take Tekturna HCT if you are also taking other blood pressure medications. Any heart meds, corticosteroids, or non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, and anticoagulants may cause other potential health risks; so provide your doctor with a complete list of all non-prescription drugs and Rx medicine you are taking, including dietary and vitamin supplements and herbal preparations or remedies.
You may consider taking Tekturna HCT in the morning so your sleep is not interrupted by having to urinate throughout the night. To avoid becoming dehydrated, drink lots of fluids during the day. You should not drive or operate machinery until you are certain how your body will react to taking Tekturna HCT.
