Description of Tobradex Eye Ointment

Tobradex Eye Ointment is prescribed as an antibacterial medication for treating the symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis, uveitis, keratitis, and as a preemptive move after ophthalmic surgery to avoid a possible infection and to reduce inflammation. There are two active ingredients in Tobradex Eye Ointment; Tobramycin is an antibiotic and Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid.

If your conjunctivitis is strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria, your doctor may recommend you begin treatment with Tobradex Eye Ointment while awaiting test results. If it turns out that it is caused by a virus, you will stop using this antibiotic and be instructed to treat the symptoms only to provide relief while the infection has run its course.
