TRUSOPT EYE DROPS (DORZOLAMIDE HCL)

Trusopt Eye Drops Description

Trusopt Eye Drops contain Dorzolamide HCl, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor prescribed to treat ocular hypertension and intraocular pressure (IOP) in open-angle glaucoma. Glaucoma can occur when the pressure inside your eye becomes too high. Ocular hypertension can go unnoticed and if left untreated it can create a pressure that will permanently affect your eyesight. This is why it is so important to have regular eye exams performed so this can be caught early and treated so your vision is not at risk.

How Trusopt Eye Drops Help Reduce IOP

Trusopt Eye Drops or generic Dorzolamide HCl works by inhibiting an enzyme called carbonic anhydrase in the ciliary body to lower the secretion of aqueous humor. The ciliary body is responsible for releasing aqueous humor, the gelatinous fluid found in the front and back chambers of your eyes. By reducing the amount of this fluid inside your eyes, the pressure decreases so your eyesight is not at risk. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

About Your Eyes and Risk Factors for Glaucoma

To maintain an even pressure inside your eye, aqueous humor is constantly being secreted and then flows from the ciliary body into the front (anterior) chamber and out through the trabecular meshwork, which is a spongy tissue at the front of your eye. It finally makes its way to a drainage canal. This keeps a safe level of fluid in your eyes at all times. However, if there are any problems with the draining canal, the aqueous humor won’t drain properly and the pressure builds inside from too much fluid which can damage your optic nerve.

Open-angle glaucoma is the most common type of glaucoma and not all of those diagnosed with this condition will have increased pressure. Some risk factors to be aware of for having glaucoma are certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease, a family history, age, and the long-term use of corticosteroids, especially in eye drops.

Trusopt Eye Drops are not a cure for glaucoma, but it can prevent the loss of vision that may occur if this condition is not diagnosed and treated quickly. Your ophthalmologist may suggest using a beta blocker medicine along with Trusopt Eye Drops as treatment to regain and keep a proper pressure.

Before Administering Trusopt Eye Drops

Ask your doctor if Trusopt Eye Drops are safe to use if you are pregnant, may become pregnant during treatment, or are breast feeding. Talk about your other medical conditions or allergies with your doctor and provide a complete list of any OTC and Rx drugs you are taking, including herbal, dietary, and vitamin supplements. This will allow your doctor to determine if using Trusopt Eye Drops will cause any unintended side effects.

Trusopt Eye Drops Proper Use and Recommendations

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before administering Trusopt Eye Drops and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in because your contacts may intensify the effects of this medicine. Your vision will be impaired for a short time after instilling Trusopt Eye Drops so avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other tasks that may be considered risky if your vision is blurry.
