Vancocin Description

The oral form of Vancocin or Vancomycin generic is prescribed to treat certain infections of the gastrointestinal tract. When Vancomycin is taken orally, it is not significantly absorbed from the gut into the bloodstream. Before Vancocin is Prescribed

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or are breast feeding as Vancocin may be harmful to your unborn or nursing baby. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies you have so your doctor can determine if Vancocin is the right drug for your situation.

Caution should be used when prescribing oral Vancocin for patients with: decreased kidney function, history of hearing problems, or inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

Vancomycin can cause hearing loss. People with a history of hearing loss should not take this medication if possible. If you experience any hearing loss, dizziness, or ringing in your ears while taking Vancocin, you should contact your doctor immediately.
