VIBRAMYCIN HYCLATE (DOXYCYCLINE)

Vibramycin Hyclate Description

Vibramycin Hyclate is prescribed to treat common and some uncommon bacterial infections, including acne, urinary tract infection, pneumonia, Leptospirosis, cholera, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Your doctor may perform a swab or take a tissue sample to be certain your infection is caused by bacteria before prescribing Vibramycin Hyclate.

It is important that you take Vibramycin Hyclate for the time period indicated by your doctor. By stopping the treatment early, any bacteria that may remain in your body could develop a resistance to Doxycycline so restarting would be futile unless the medication is changed.

Vibramycin Hyclate Disrupts Essential Bacterial Protein Production

When taken as directed, Vibramycin Hyclate or generic Doxycycline will target the bacteria and interfere with their ability to make proteins that the bacteria need in order to grow and multiply. Depending on whether your doctor recommends a high or low dosage, Vibramycin Hyclate can either kill the bacteria (bactericidal) or render them unable to reproduce and your immune system steps in to deal with any remaining bacteria (bacteriostatic). You should not, however, change your dosage without talking to your doctor first. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

Conditions Treated by Vibramycin Hyclate

Vibramycin Hyclate is one of the most common tetracycline drugs prescribed for treating acne and rosacea. The bacteria associated with acne is call Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). It feeds on the oil (sebum) your sebaceous glands produce as a protective layer on your skin to hold in moisture. The bacteria irritates the sebaceous glands that causes inflammation and your pores can become clogged with dead skin cells and sebum.

If you are a last-minute traveler and are heading to a region where malaria is prevalent, Vibramycin Hyclate can be started 1 or 2 days before you leave as a preventive drug. This treatment should continue for your stay and for an additional month after your return. If you begin showing symptoms of malaria, including chills, vomiting, headache, see your doctor.

Before Vibramycin Hyclate is Prescribed

Ask your doctor about the safety of taking Vibramycin Hyclate if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding. Explain other medical conditions and allergies to your doctor and list any OTC or Rx drugs you currently take or use, including herbal remedies and dietary or vitamin supplements so it can be determined if Vibramycin Hyclate is right for you.

Vibramycin Hyclate Precautions

Drinks lots of fluids after taking Vibramycin Hyclate to avoid throat irritation. If you are taking an oral birth control, you should use a back-up method such as condoms or foam because Vibramycin Hyclate can make birth control pills less effective. Your skin may be more sensitive to sunlight exposure so wear an SPF 15 or higher when outdoors and wear protective clothing to avoid sunburn.
