Zyprexa Zydis Description

Zyprexa Zydis is an oral disintegrating drug that may be prescribed for treating schizophrenia or bipolar disorder in those 18 years and older. As an add-on to Fluoxetine, Zyprexa Zydis can benefit individuals with certain types of depression as well, including acute (rapid onset) depressive episodes in adults with bipolar I disorder and acute, resistant depression in adults. Olanzapine is the active ingredient of Zyprexa while Zydis indicates the technology used to manufacture the orally disintegrating tablets.

Better Control of Brain Chemicals Can Help with Mental Disturbances

It is believed that psychotic illnesses are due to a disturbance in the activity of brain chemicals called neurotransmitters, dopamine in particular. When Zyprexa Zydis is taken as directed, it will work to block the dopamine receptors in your brain that this neurotransmitter acts on. This action will help to stop the undue activity that could be responsible for causing some of the symptoms of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, including delusions and hallucinations or inappropriate euphoria, irritability and increased energy.

Zyprexa Zydis Precautions

If your symptoms are not improving, revisit your doctor as your dosage may need to be adjusted. Do not consume alcohol while on this drug as it can raise your risk of serious side effects. Monitor your blood sugar often if you are diabetic as Zyprexa Zydis could increase sugar levels. Until you know how Olanzapine will affect you, do not drive, operate machinery, or attempt any task that may be considered unsafe. Zyprexa Zydis is not approved for treating the psychotic conditions related to dementia.
