REMERON (MIRTAZAPINE)

Remeron Will Help to Treat Major Depression

Remeron is an antidepressant belonging to a class of drugs known as tetracyclic antidepressants that can be prescribed to treat the symptoms of major depression. When you have depression, certain chemicals in the brain are out of their normal balance. Antidepressants such as Mirtazapine work by helping to bring the chemicals back into balance.

Remeron or generic Mirtazapine will not cure depression, but it can effectively elevate a person's mood and relieve the symptoms of depression. The generic alternative is not manufactured by the company that makes the brand product.

How Remeron Works

When taken as directed, Remeron works by enhancing the activity of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) called noradrenaline and serotonin in the brain. Neurotransmitters act as chemical messengers between nerve cells. When noradrenaline and serotonin are released from nerve cells in the brain, they act to lighten mood. Remeron helps to prolong the effects of noradrenaline and serotonin on the brain by inhibiting their reabsorption.

Conditions That Can Benefit From Remeron

Remeron is prescribed to treat major depressive disorder, also known as clinical depression or major depression. Depression is a medical condition characterized by long-lasting feelings of intense sadness and hopelessness associated with additional mental and physical changes. Depression can affect someone's personal, social, and professional life. The person's interest and pleasure in many activities, energy levels, and eating and sleeping patterns are usually altered.

Before You Take Remeron

Advise your doctor if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding to make certain Remeron is safe to take during this time. Explain other medical conditions you have and list all medications you currently take or use, including herbal remedies and vitamin supplements. Certain drugs can cause dangerous drug interactions if taken with Remeron.

Antidepressants usually take at least a few weeks to achieve their beneficial effect, so it is important to have patience and take the medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

What to be Aware of When Taking Remeron

Children or teenagers who are prescribed Remeron may be more likely to experience suicidal thoughts or attempt suicide while taking this medication. Adults who have experienced suicidal thoughts in the past may also experience these symptoms. It’s important that your spouse, partner, roommate be aware that you are taking Remeron in case your moods worsen.

Antidepressants may cause the amount of sodium in the blood to drop - a condition called hyponatremia. This can cause symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, muscle twitching or convulsions. Elderly people may be particularly susceptible to this effect. You should consult your doctor if you develop any of these symptoms while taking Mirtazapine, so that your blood sodium level can be checked if necessary.
