Sectral Description

Sectral is a beta blocker drug that is prescribed to treat abnormal heart rhythms, called arrhythmias. Those experiencing the pain of angina may also benefit from treatment with Sectral, as your heart is not straining for a sufficient supply of oxygen enriched blood. Sectral or generic Acebutolol will not cure any of these conditions, but you will be able to carry on with your daily tasks in comfort. What Do Beta Blockers Do?

Beta blockers such as Sectral are formulated to block beta receptors in your body so stress hormones called catecholamines cannot attach to their receptors and cause your heart to beat faster and harder. Once your heart is regulated, your blood pressure will also decrease and you will have a reduced risk of heart attack or stroke.

Information About Atrial Fibrillation

The most common type of arrhythmia is called atrial fibrillation, or A-fib. This can occur when fast and disorganized electrical signals cause the two upper chambers of your heart (left and right atria) to contract quickly and irregularly (fibrillate). Your blood is not pumped entirely into your two bottom chambers of your heart (left and right ventricle) so the two sets of chambers are unable to work rhythmically.

Many people are not even aware they have an arrhythmia, as is the case with high blood pressure. These conditions are usually diagnosed through a regular doctor exam and must be dealt with to avoid the possibility of heart failure or a stroke.

Discuss your medical history with your doctor so it can be determined if Sectral is the right medicine for your situation. List all current OTC and Rx drugs you are taking, including herbal remedies and vitamin supplements as any of them could cause a negative reaction when taken with Sectral.

Sectral Precautions

Tell your doctor before taking Sectral if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast-feeding as it may affect your unborn or nursing baby. You should not drive or operate a vehicle or participate in any activities that require you to be alert and in control of your body until you know how Sectral will affect you.
