VECTICAL OINTMENT (ALSO CALLED SILKIS) (CALCITRIOL)

Vectical Ointment Description

If you are dealing with mild to moderate plaque psoriasis, talk to your doctor about a prescription for Vectical Ointment (also called Silkis). This is a topical treatment with Calcitriol as its active ingredient, a vitamin D derivative that will reduce the increased production of skin cells that build up and cause the red, scaly patches of skin that flakes off, meanwhile the new cells just below the skin’s surface will stick together and are likely to bleed and cause tenderness.

Reduce the Plaques as Calcitriol Slows Down Skin Cell Cycle

When applied as directed, Vectical Ointment will be absorbed into your skin cells and bind to the vitamin D receptors located there. Researchers believe that this action causes a reduction in the excessive skin cell growth so the plaques of skin will decrease and you’ll notice less scaly patches with a reduction in the inflammation. Vectical Ointment is not a cure for psoriasis, but an effective treatment to help increase the appearance of your skin.

Conditions Treated by Vectical Ointment

So far, research findings indicate that psoriasis is an autoimmune disease. This means that for unknown reasons, your immune system is alerted to a threat and its response is to speed up the production of your skin cells. Normally, your skin cell cycle is in-sync so as new cells are produced and make their way to your skin surface, old cells are being shed or sloughed off. This process usually takes 28-30 days, but for those with psoriasis, the new cells in the affected skin areas are being produced every 3-6 days! The old cells are not ready to fall off and the new cells are surfacing so a raised patch of skin cells form that is red, inflamed, and can cause pain.

Before You are Prescribed Vectical Ointment

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, may become pregnant, or are breast feeding before applying Vectical Ointment as there may be a risk to your unborn or nursing baby. Discuss other medical conditions or allergies with your doctor and list any Rx drugs you currently take or use, including OTC meds and herbal remedies or vitamin supplements. Your doctor can then determine if Vectical Ointment is right for you.

Proper Use of Vectical Ointment

If you are also applying other anti-psoriatic products as per a doctor, allow one to be fully absorbed before applying the next product. Keep Vectical Ointment and other meds out of children’s reach and avoid sharing with others. Vectical Ointment does not contain any corticosteroids so you may be advised to apply it as needed or to maintain remission of psoriasis. It can take up to 2 weeks before you notice any positive benefits of using Vectical Ointment, so be patient.
