How Zomig Works on Serotonin - A Neurotransmitter

Zomig is classified as a 5HT1-receptor agonist; 5HT refers to a naturally produced chemical in your body called serotonin. You take Zomig at the first sign of a migraine where it targets the serotonin receptor just as the serotonin in your body would do. One of the effects of Zomig or generic Zolmitriptan is to cause blood vessels to constrict to limit the blood flow in your brain that is believed to be, at least in part, a cause of migraine headaches.

Proper Use of Zomig

Zomig should be used to provide relief from a migraine that has already started; it should not be used to try and prevent a migraine.
